Whole House Repiping in Southern Indiana
Old Pipes? We Replace Them Right.
When Repiping Makes More Sense Than Repair
Some plumbing problems keep coming back because the pipes themselves are the problem. Galvanized steel corrodes from the inside, narrowing the pipe until water pressure drops to a trickle. Polybutylene cracks without warning. Older copper develops pinhole leaks from water chemistry over time.
About 13.5% of homes in the Louisville metro were built before 1940, and many more were built in the 1950s through 1970s when galvanized and polybutylene piping were standard. If your home still has original piping from that era, every repair is a band-aid on a failing system.
We evaluate the condition of your entire plumbing system, not just the leak in front of us. If repiping is the right call, we walk you through the scope, timeline, and cost before starting. If a targeted repair makes more sense, we’ll tell you that instead.
Signs Your Home Needs Repiping
Low Water Pressure Throughout the House
If pressure has dropped at multiple fixtures, corrosion buildup inside galvanized pipes is a common cause. The pipe diameter shrinks as rust and scale accumulate, restricting flow everywhere.
Urgency: Schedule an evaluation. Low pressure usually means the pipes are narrowing.
Discolored or Rusty Water
Brown, yellow, or orange water from your hot and cold taps points to corroding pipes. If flushing the lines doesn’t clear it, the corrosion is widespread and repiping is the long-term fix.
Urgency: Call soon. Corroding pipes will eventually leak.
Frequent Leaks in Different Locations
One leak is a repair. Two or three leaks in different parts of the house within a year or two means the entire system is deteriorating. Repiping stops the cycle of patch, wait, patch.
Urgency: Call after your second leak in a short period.
Galvanized Steel or Polybutylene Piping
These materials have known failure patterns. Galvanized steel corrodes internally. Polybutylene (gray plastic pipe common in 1978-1995 builds) becomes brittle and cracks. Both are candidates for proactive replacement.
Urgency: Schedule a pipe evaluation, especially before listing your home for sale.
Visible Corrosion on Exposed Pipes
Green staining on copper, white mineral crust on galvanized, or flaking on any pipe you can see in the basement or crawl space. What you see on the outside is usually worse on the inside.
Urgency: Have a plumber evaluate the system scope.
Planning a Major Renovation
If you’re gutting a bathroom or kitchen, that’s the best time to repipe. Walls are already open, which cuts labor cost and disruption significantly.
Urgency: Coordinate with your remodel timeline.

Types of Repiping We Handle
- Whole-House Repiping
Complete replacement of all supply lines from the main shutoff to every fixture. We use PEX or copper, depending on your preference and budget. PEX is faster to install, resists corrosion, and handles the freeze-thaw cycles common in our Indiana winters.
- Partial Repiping
When only a section of the system is failing, we can replace just that portion. Common in homes where one bathroom wing or the kitchen runs on galvanized, while the rest has been updated.
- Water Line Replacement
The main water line from the meter to your house. If this line is failing, replacement may involve excavation depending on depth and access.
- Commercial Repiping
Why Professional Repiping Pays Off
- Eliminates Recurring Leak Repairs
New piping means no more emergency calls for leaks, no more drywall patches, and no more water damage cleanup. One project solves the root problem.
- Restores Full Water Pressure
Modern PEX and copper have smooth interior walls with no buildup. You’ll notice the difference in shower pressure, fill times, and overall flow immediately after repiping.
- Protects Your Home's Value
Home inspectors flag galvanized and polybutylene piping. Repiping before a sale removes a common deal-killer and gives buyers confidence in the home’s systems.
- Cleaner, Safer Drinking Water
- Modern Materials Last 50+ Years
PEX and copper are proven to last well beyond 50 years with normal use. Once your home is repiped, this is a problem you likely won’t face again.
What a Repiping Project Looks Like
We start with an evaluation of your existing piping. We identify the pipe material, age, condition, and scope of any damage. Then we map the layout and build a plan for the new system.
During the repipe, we run new lines through walls, floors, and ceilings, connecting to every fixture. We protect your home with drop cloths, minimize drywall openings, and mark patch locations for your finish crew. Most whole-house repipes take 2 to 4 days, depending on the home’s size and layout.
After installation, we pressure test the entire system, check every fixture for proper flow, and walk you through what was done. We leave your home clean and ready for any drywall patching.

Repiping Questions
Straight answers, no filler.
Still have a question?
Call us directly — we’ll give you a straight answer, never a sales pitch.
How much does repiping cost?
Cost depends on the home’s size, number of fixtures, pipe material, and access difficulty. We provide a detailed upfront quote after evaluating your system. No hidden fees.
How long does a whole-house repipe take?
Most homes take 2 to 4 days. Larger homes or those with difficult access may take longer. We give you a clear timeline before starting.
Will I have water during the repipe?
We plan the work to minimize downtime. In most cases, water is off during the workday and restored each evening. We’ll let you know the schedule in advance.
PEX or copper: which is better?
PEX is more affordable, faster to install, and handles freezing better. Copper lasts slightly longer, and some homeowners prefer it. Both are excellent. We’ll help you compare based on your priorities.
Do you repair the drywall afterward?
We minimize openings and mark every access point, but we focus on the plumbing. Most homeowners coordinate a drywall contractor or handyman for the finish work. We’re happy to provide patch location details.
