Water Line Repair and Replacement in Southern Indiana
Lost Water Pressure? We'll Find the Break.
A broken water line can leave your home without water or send your water bill through the roof. We locate, repair, and replace water mains and service lines for homes and businesses throughout Southern Indiana and the Louisville metro. From pinhole leaks to full main breaks, we handle it all in-house, including excavation when the pipe is underground.
Your Water Line: The Pipe You Never Think About
The water line runs from the city main or meter to your home, usually buried 3 to 5 feet underground. It’s the single pipe that supplies every faucet, shower, toilet, and appliance in your house. When it fails, everything stops.
Water lines fail for several reasons: age, corrosion, tree root damage, ground shifting, or freeze-thaw cycles. Southern Indiana’s winters regularly dip below freezing, and our clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with moisture levels. Both put stress on underground pipes, especially older copper and galvanized steel lines.
We serve Clark, Floyd, Harrison, and surrounding counties with water line diagnosis, repair, and replacement. Our team carries leak detection equipment and can camera-inspect accessible sections to pinpoint the damage before deciding on repair or replacement.
Signs of a Water Line Problem
Sudden Drop in Water Pressure
If pressure drops at every fixture in the house at once, the issue is likely in the main water line. A crack, break, or partially collapsed section restricts flow to the entire home.
Urgency:Call today. Low pressure usually means water is escaping underground.
Unexplained Spike in Your Water Bill
A hidden leak in the water line can waste thousands of gallons before you notice. If your bill jumps without a change in usage, the water line is a likely suspect.
Urgency: Call soon. You’re paying for water you’re not using.
Wet Spots in the Yard When It Hasn't Rained
Saturated soil, puddles, or unusually green patches along the path from the meter to the house point to a leaking water line underground.
Urgency:Call this week. Leaking water can undermine your foundation.
Discolored Water After the Line Is Disturbed
If your water turns brown or rusty after nearby construction, road work, or a water main flush, your line may have corrosion or sediment inside. This is more common with galvanized and older copper lines.
Urgency :Schedule an evaluation if it happens regularly.
No Water at All
A complete loss of water (when neighbors still have service) means the line is broken or the shutoff valve has failed. This is an emergency that we respond to 24/7.
Urgency:Call now.
Hissing or Running Water Sound When Everything Is Off
If you hear water running but nothing is on, a pressurized leak in the main line is pushing water through a crack. Check your meter: if it’s spinning with all fixtures off, you have a leak.
Urgency:Call today. Every hour of leaking increases the bill and damage risk.

Water Line Services We Provide
- Water Line Leak Repair
Spot repairs for isolated leaks, pinhole failures, and joint issues. When the damage is limited to one section, a targeted repair saves time and cost compared to full replacement.
- Water Main Replacement
Full replacement of the service line from the meter to the house. We use modern copper or PEX, depending on code requirements and your preference. Includes excavation, connection to the meter, and connection to your interior plumbing.
- Water Line Installation for New Construction
New homes, additions, and outbuildings that need a water supply connection. We trench, install, connect, and coordinate inspection. New construction plumbing is a core part of our work.
- Shut-Off Valve Repair and Replacement
Main shut-off valves corrode and seize over time, especially in older homes. We replace failed valves so you can control your water supply when you need to.
Why Water Line Repairs Need a Licensed Plumber
- Locating the Break Without Guesswork
We use leak detection equipment and visual inspection to pinpoint the break before digging. That means a smaller hole, less yard damage, and a faster repair.
- Safe Excavation Around Utilities
Water lines run near gas lines, sewer lines, electrical lines, and communication cables. A licensed plumber with excavation experience digs safely. We call for utility locates before every dig.
- Code-Compliant Connections
Water line connections to the meter and to the home must meet local code. We pull permits and schedule inspections as part of the project. Indiana Master Plumber license PC10802641.
- Proper Backfill and Surface Restoration
After the repair, we backfill with approved material, compact properly to prevent settling, and grade the surface. We don’t leave your yard looking like a construction site.
- One Team Handles Everything
Most plumbers subcontract the dig work. We handle plumbing and excavation with one crew, which means less cost, faster turnaround, and better coordination.
What a Water Line Repair Includes
We start by confirming the leak location. If the break is accessible, we expose the pipe, assess the damage, and determine whether a spot repair or replacement is needed. We explain your options and give upfront pricing.
For full replacement, we dig a trench from the meter to the house, remove the old line, install the new pipe, make connections at both ends, pressure test, and backfill. The typical water line replacement takes 1 to 2 days.
We protect landscaping where possible, route around obstacles, and restore the surface when we’re done. If the line runs under a driveway or walkway, we discuss the approach and any concrete cutting before we start.

Water Line Questions
Straight answers, no filler.
Still have a question?
Call us directly — we’ll give you a straight answer, never a sales pitch.
How do I know if my water line is leaking?
Check your water meter with all fixtures off. If the dial is still moving, you have a leak. Wet spots in the yard, a spiking water bill, and low pressure are other indicators.
How much does water line replacement cost?
It depends on the line length, depth, material, and surface type (yard vs. driveway). We provide detailed upfront pricing after evaluating the site.
Is the water company responsible for the line?
Usually, the utility owns the pipe from the main to the meter. The homeowner is responsible from the meter to the house. We handle the homeowner’s portion.
What pipe material do you use?
Copper or high-density PEX, depending on local code requirements and your preference. Both are durable, long-lasting materials. We’ll explain the options.
Will I be without water during the repair?
Yes, water is shut off during the repair. A spot repair may only require a few hours. A full replacement typically takes a full day. We will let you know the timeline in advance.
