Garbage Disposal Repair and Replacement in Southern Indiana
Jammed, Humming, or Leaking? We'll Handle It.
When Your Disposal Needs Professional Help
A disposal that hums but won’t spin, won’t turn on at all, leaks from the bottom, or grinds poorly needs professional attention. While some jams can be cleared with an Allen wrench and a reset button, recurring problems usually point to worn components or a unit that’s past its useful life.
We handle garbage disposal work for residential and commercial properties throughout Clark, Floyd, Harrison counties, and the greater Louisville metro. Most disposals last 8 to 15 years, depending on usage. If yours is in that range and giving you trouble, replacement is often faster and more cost-effective than repair.
Common Garbage Disposal Problems
Disposal Hums But Won't Spin
Something is jammed in the grinding chamber. If the reset button and Allen wrench don’t free it, the motor or impeller may be damaged. Running a jammed motor for too long can burn it out permanently.
Urgency: Call today. A jammed motor that keeps trying to spin will overheat.
Disposal Won't Turn On
No sound when you flip the switch could be a tripped reset, a faulty wall switch, a blown circuit, or a dead motor. We troubleshoot the electrical and mechanical components to find the root cause.
Urgency: Try the reset button first. If that doesn’t work, call us.
Leaking From the Bottom
A leak from the bottom of the unit means the internal seal has failed. This is typically not repairable and means the disposal needs to be replaced. Leaks from the top or side connections may be fixable.
Urgency: Call soon. Water damage under the sink adds up quickly.
Disposal Drains Slowly
Slow draining after the disposal runs may indicate a clogged kitchen drain line rather than a disposal problem. We diagnose which is the actual issue and fix it.
Urgency: Call for diagnosis. The fix may be drain cleaning, not disposal repair.
Persistent Bad Smell
A disposal that smells even after cleaning may have food trapped in areas you can’t reach, or internal corrosion trapping organic material. We can deep-clean or replace the unit depending on what we find.
Urgency: Schedule when it bothers you. The smell usually means buildup.
Grinding Gets Worse Over Time
If the disposal runs but food isn’t grinding properly, the impellers or flywheel may be worn. On units older than 10 years, replacement is usually the better investment.
Urgency: Schedule this week. Poor grinding means more food going into your drain line.

Disposal Services We Provide
- Garbage Disposal Repair
Jam clearing, motor diagnosis, switch replacement, connection tightening, and dishwasher drain reconnection. We fix what can be fixed and are honest when replacement makes more sense.
- Garbage Disposal Replacement
Full removal of the old unit and installation of a new disposal. We handle the plumbing connections, electrical, dishwasher drain hookup, and testing. We haul away the old unit.
- New Disposal Installation
Adding a disposal where one doesn’t exist. We modify the sink drain, install the mounting assembly, connect the unit, and wire the switch or outlet.
- Dishwasher Drain Connection
Many disposals connect to the dishwasher drain line. When we replace a disposal, we make sure the dishwasher connection is properly reinstalled and flowing correctly.
Why Professional Disposal Service
- Quick Turnaround
Most disposal repairs take 30 to 45 minutes. Replacements take about an hour. We carry common units on our trucks for same-day service.
- Safe Electrical and Plumbing Work
A disposal involves both electrical and plumbing connections. A licensed plumber ensures both are done safely and to code.
- Right-Sized Unit
We recommend the right horsepower for your household. A 1/3 HP unit works for light use. Families that cook often benefit from 3/4 HP or 1 HP. An undersized disposal jams more and wears out faster.
- Prevents Kitchen Drain Problems
A working disposal grinds food fine enough to flow through your drain line safely. A failing one sends chunks into the line, causing clogs you’ll need drain cleaning to fix.
- Clean Work Under the Sink
We protect your cabinets, clean up under the sink, and test everything before we leave.
What Disposal Service Includes
For repairs, we inspect the unit, diagnose the problem, and fix it on the spot. Common repairs include clearing jams, resetting the motor, replacing the switch, and tightening connections that have loosened from vibration.
For replacements, we disconnect and remove the old unit, inspect the sink drain and mounting hardware, install the new disposal, reconnect plumbing and electrical, reconnect the dishwasher line if applicable, and test the system. We haul away the old unit and wipe down under the sink.
We recommend 1/2 HP or 3/4 HP units for most households. Larger families or heavy-use kitchens may benefit from a 1 HP model. We help you pick the right one for how you use your kitchen.

Garbage Disposal Questions
Straight answers, no filler.
Still have a question?
Call us directly — we’ll give you a straight answer, never a sales pitch.
How much does garbage disposal replacement cost?
Pricing depends on the unit type, horsepower, and installation complexity. We provide upfront pricing that includes the unit and labor. No surprises.
How long do garbage disposals last?
Most disposals last 8 to 15 years, depending on usage. If yours is in that range and is having problems, replacement is usually the better investment over continued repairs.
Can I upgrade to a more powerful disposal?
Yes, in most cases. We can install a higher-horsepower unit as long as your sink mounting and electrical circuit support it. We evaluate during the service call.
What should I avoid putting in a garbage disposal?
Bones, fruit pits, grease, fibrous vegetables (celery, corn husks, asparagus), pasta, rice, and coffee grounds in large quantities. These cause jams and drain clogs.
Can a bad disposal clog my kitchen drain?
Yes. A failing disposal that doesn’t grind properly sends food chunks into the drain line, causing backups. If your kitchen drain is slow and you have an old disposal, the two problems may be connected.
